Swing
For The Crown 2010
The UK's Premier Lindy Hop Event
Yes it's that time of year already!!
The London Swing Dance Society presents its prestigious Swing for the Crown competition on
Monday 6th December where swing dancers battle for the crown and a £150 cash prize at the legendary 100 Club, Oxford Street..
Swing for the Crown pits the most exciting social Lindy Hop dancers against each other in a recreation of the famously competitive jam circles of the 1930s. An adrenalin-fuelled, and jumping jitterbug contest for dancers with moves to impress and musicality to admire. This is dancing at its most energetic, thrilling and technically inspiring.
Evoking jam circles of the 1930s and 1940s, contestants take turns swinging out to the DJ’s furiously-paced music. Competitors have only about 30 seconds each to show off their craziest moves, jazz spirit and keen sense of musicality before the next couple swing out.
With an "all skate" at the end, the heats and finals will be judged by audience "clapometer".
Music will be chosen by the organiser.
All finalists are winners of contributing heats.
This is a dance-off in which only one couple is left standing – the Swing King and Queen.
First Heat - 6th September
Second Heat - 4th November
Third Heat - 1st December
Finals - Monday 6th December 2010
***
To enter please register on the night of the heat. The top three couples from each heat will be chosen to go through to the finals in December. Where one of the finalists can not make the finals, the next top couple will be chosen to take their place.
As was the tradition of the Savoy ballroom competitions of the 1930s and 40s the competition will take the form of a jam circle with an "all skate" at the end, and the heats and finals will be judged by audience "clapometer". Music will be chosen by the organiser.
The winning finalists will win the title of "Stompin's Swing King & Queen"and £150 of prize money. |
