"No Rules Competition" in line with the competitions held on
Saturday nights at the Savoy Ballroom, Harlem , New York:
Any dance move, any style goes but:
Judges will be looking for:
* Musicality
* Timing
* Skill
* Showmanship & Entertainment Value
* Social Dancing Skills
* References to the vernacular dance tradition of Lindy Hop
You will be marked down for:
* Extensive solo choreography
* Interfering with other competitors
Run of Competition
Competition will be a mixture of all couples on the floor at
the same time and jam-session style.
Music:
Competition music will be chosen by the organisers.
Our DJs will play swing music in various tempos.
Miscellaneous:
As our judges will be taking into account audience response (applause, cheering, shouting, physical reaction etc) the greater the reaction you can get from the audience the greater your chance of winning.
Our judges will be looking at how you react to the audience and increase the level of your game accordingly. Whilst nothing beats good basics anything you can do - from costume to originality in your dancing, to crazy dance steps and wow factor tricks - will give you the edge.
Make sure you have the experience and you have fully rehearsed any dangerous air-steps: don't get carried away on the day with tricks you haven't really got yet - practise them before the competition as you will loose brownie points for flashy moves done badly!
