Waterloo Jive: South Bank Swings
Again!
27 August 2000

This now regular event is an excellent opportunity to
get ahead of the craze for swing and jump music that is sweeping the country.
With The Ray Gelato Giants and their big band of real swing music it has
turned out to be a truly memorable event for London's lindy hoppers and
500 strong crowd who congregated near London's Oxo Tower on a sunny Sunday
afternoon. It started with a lesson from Simon and Taina, greatly enjoyed
by novices and Lindy Hop experts alike. Sparkling shows by The Sugar Foot
Stompers, a group of outrageously talented dancers, and the LSDS amature
performance group, no less outrageously enthusiastic Lindy Hoppers, held
the crowds spellbound. The highlight of the event was the competition
sponsored by Dance Holidays and local companies. The winners were picked
for their enthusiam and fun, rather than dancing skills. Among the prizes
were restaurant meals, cimena and theatre tickets, and, of course, the
special prize - a Swing Jive trip for two to Barcelona, won by Suzie Parker.
