11.30-12.30pm - Beginners Charleston -
For the 20s Charleston, we will master the first four stages of the basic and then after that the Charleston is really just a series of variations based on these stages. This can be done solo or partnered.
 No experience necessary or partner required.

12.30-2pm - Intermediate Charleston -
Fun Charleston Routine - Flapper, Sheiks, Bees Knees & Black Bottom. With moves you can use on the social floor!

Learn the signature moves of two of the most iconic dances of the Swing era : 1920s Charleston and 1930-40s Lindy Hop and put them into a fun routine!

Sorry these are all progressive courses, designed to be taken as a whole, if you are unable to attend a week you will receive the video review for you to practice on your own and we will help you catch up in the next class

Beginners Lindy Hop

11.30am Beginners Lindy Hop (Series1) - This 6 week course will give you the best possible start in learning to swing dance. Designed by Simon Selmon, who is one of the longest running full time professional Lindy Hop teachers in the world. His tried & tested methods will teach you solid fundamentals and the foundations needed to progress to the highest level. At the end of this course you will be able to dance to a whole song!

What will I learn? Over 6 weeks you will learn:

  • 6 count essentials such as the change places & tuck turn.
  • 8 count Swing Outs - such as the Lindy Turn, Circle
  • Musicality
  • Frame
  • Connection with your partner
  • How to build a dance
  • Good social ethics on the dance floor

Plus course attendees will receive a weekly handout and video recap by email so no problem is you have to miss a week. You will also have access to a private facebook group to ask questions and exchange with your fellow students.

We offer two beginners 6 week courses (Series 1 & 2), which are independent and can be taken in any order. Whilst we repeat many of the basics there are new variations on each course. We recommend completing the beginner’s course twice before moving on to the improvers.

Improvers Lindy Hop

12.30pm Improvers Lindy Hop (Series 1) - This 6 week course is a follow on from our beginners course.
Starting from the point where you are familiar with many of the classic signature patterns and designed to reinforce those same patterns, increase your vocabulary and ability to begin to improvise whilst simultaneously building on your musicality, frame & connection skills. Designed by Simon Selmon, who is one of the longest running full time professional Lindy Hop teachers in the world. His tried & tested methods will teach you solid fundamentals and the foundations needed to progress to the highest level. At the end of this course you be a more confident dancer, with the ability to choose from multiple variations & options!

Plus course attendees will receive a weekly handout and video recap by email so no problem is you have to miss a week. You will also have access to a private facebook group to ask questions and exchange with your fellow students.

What will I learn? Over 6 weeks we will review much of our beginners course and learn

  • New vocabulary/patterns
  • To build flow between 6 & 8 count patterns
  • Increase musicality awareness and practise simple excersises.
  • Understand compression, tension & tone within the context of dance
  • Build more connection with your partner
  • The basics of how to improvise
  • Good social ethics on the dance floor

Who is this course for?

  • Students who have attended a minimum of one of our 6 beginners week courses
  • A minimum of 10 of our beginner drop in classes
  • Other dance background equivelent to the above (please check with us first if you are not sure)
  • Feel more confident on the social dance floor
  • Want to move up to the next level
  • looking for a strong foundation with which to grow your dancing
  • Existing leaders or followers who wish to learn the other role
  • Looking to make new friends

Intermediate/Advanced Lindy Hop

3.30pm Intermediate/Advanced Lindy Hop - This 6 week course will be a small laser focused group workshop on different aspects of the Lindy. Designed by Simon Selmon, who is one of the longest running full time professional Lindy Hop teachers in the world and his wife Anna Lambrechts. This series will focus on foundations 2.0 - working on creating high level basics for experienced dancers and technique for Fast-Lindy, slowly but surely developing the technique required to dance Lindy at higher tempos without killing yourself.  This course will be about basics, basics, basics - that will make you a better dancer or even if you never plan to teach will give the the technique and understanding you would need to be a teacher.

At the end of this course you be a more confident dancer, with technique that will allow you to lead or follow anyone at any tempo.

Plus course attendees will receive a weekly video recap by email so no problem is you have to miss a week. You will also have access to a private students facebook group to ask questions and exchange with your fellow students.

What will I learn?

  • A foundation with which your dancing can grow & grow
  • Old school techniques passed on from the first & second generation of Lindy Hoppers that just work.
  • The ability to think on your feet once you don't have to think about technique as much because it has become part of how you move.

Speciality Dance is 20s Charleston & Jazz Roots

2.30pm Charleston & Solo Jazz - This 6 week course designed by Anna Lambrechts (founder of the chorus girl troupe Diamond Girls) & Simon Selmon (one of the longest running full time professional Lindy Hop teachers in the world). This a progressive course that will help you master the first four stages of the classic Charleston going through to lindy Charleston, the essential must know Jazz steps and how to improvise and develop your own style and character within the dance.
We will also bsome short choreographed routines. This class is about having the ability to express yourself, developing the mental skills to improve both improvise & learn routines. For some of you this may push you outside your comfort zone for others its just pure fun!

Either way at the end of this course you be a more confident dancer, with new skills that will improve your partnered Lindy and just make you a better person all round.
